The Miami Art Museum (MAM) features an eclectic mix of modern and contemporary works by such artists as Eric Fischl, Max Beckmann, Jim Dine, and Stuart Davis. Rotating exhibitions span the ages and styles, and often focus on Latin American or Caribbean artists.
The Miami-Dade Cultural Center, where the museum is housed, is a fortresslike complex designed by Phillip Johnson. In addition to the acclaimed Miami Art Museum, the center houses the main branch of the Miami-Dade Public Library, which sometimes features art and cultural exhibits, and the Historical Museum of Southern Florida, which highlights the fascinating history of the area.

Rubell Family Collection , 95 Northwest 29th Street, Miami
In a nondescript 40,000-square-foot Miami warehouse that once served as a Drug Enforcement Administration storage facility for cocaine and cash seized from drug dealers, one of the citys most acclaimed treasuresand best-kept secretsis having a seismic impact on its evolution as a cultural center. Although the Rubell family art collection, which features some of the edgiest work and most important contemporary work of the last 30 years, is not on any tourist maps of Miamis finest attractions, the Northwest 29th Street building with the caged entrance attracts an average of 200 visitors per week. And what they see, usually on leisurely individual tours conducted by the curator or one of the Rubells themselves, is an astonishingly original manifestation of the power of art to provoke debate and prompt social intercourse.
Collectors since 1967, the Rubell family (now based in Miami, Florida) today owns some 6,000 works of art, from paintings to sculptures, photography, videos, and installations, by the most significant artists working from the 1970s to the present. The collection reads like a "Who's Who" of contemporary art. It
