Washington ist politisches aber nicht kulturelles Zentrum der USA. Die "Natioal Gallery" und die Museen sind dennoch hervorragend . Zeitgenössische Kunst findet man weniger.

 

National Gallery of Art

National Portrait Gallery -

The Arthur M. Sackler Gallery- Asian art at the Smithsonian.

The galleries are located on the National Mall, the grassy area between the Capitol and the Washington Monument, steps from the Smithsonian Metro stop. The Sackler Gallery is located at 1050 Independence Avenue, SW. The Freer Gallery of Art is located at Jefferson Drive at 12th Street, SW. The two museums are connected by an underground exhibition space.


The Corcoran Gallery of Art - Exhibits of American and European art.


 Hillwood Museum and Gardens - Collection of Russiam Imperial art.
Smithsonian American Art Museum - The building is closed to the public until our grand reopening on July 4, 2006.

The Renwick Gallery -Meanwhile, the museum continues a full program of exhibitions and events at its Renwick Gallery, located near the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue at 17th Street N.W. The Renwick is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., seven days a week (except December 25). For information, call (202) 633-2850.

Library-The library is open to the public at 750 Ninth Street N.W., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

 

Most administrative offices for the Smithsonian American Art Museum are located in the Victor Building at 750 Ninth Street N.W.
