Ron Mueck (1958 - )

Melbourne, Australia, 1958. Lives and works in London. Ron Mueck brings to bis work an acute aware-ness of physical specificity and human frailty. Mueck's atlention is totally focused on the prima-ry object, and he is willing to rupture the suspen-sion of disbelief by allowing the viewer to draw near. The main thing about Mueck's work, how-ever, is its subtle yet overwhelming lifelikeness, which is startlingly sufficient to suggest to the viewer that this object is an easily accurate simu-lacrum of the human substance, body and soul.
